Augusto Junquero was born in 1869 in the northern Spanish province of Asturia. In 1897 he was awarded a scholarship to attend the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. Between 1901 and 1910 the artist participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid. Beginning in 1917 Junquero taught at the University of Oviedo, where he knew the artists Paulino Vicente, Nicolás Soria, Eugenio Tamayo and José Pérez Jiménez. 

In 1934 Junquero exhibited his work at the Sixth Biennial of Avilés. The University of Oviedo presented a posthumous retrospective of his sketches and paintings in 1954. Junquero’s work is held in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturius in Oviedo.
