Artist Lucien Genin was born in Paris in 1894. He received his initial artistic training at L’Ecole des Beaux-arts in Rouen, and then in 1919 he went on to study at L’Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. A master of multiple mediums, Genin worked in oils, watercolors, gouache and pastels, as well as doing many drawings. During his career he exhibited both in Paris and abroad, receiving an award from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1932. In 1960 in Paris, a solo exhibition was held of Genin’s paintings. His works are housed in private and public collections in France as well as the United States, including that of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Genin’s style is distinctively post impressionist; he painted quickly and combining within his works an air of spontaneity and innocence. Genin completed a large body of works during his career, many of which are urban landscapes capturing views of Paris, Rouen, Lorient, and Dinan.
