Laszlo Medgyes was born in Budapest in 1892. He came to Paris in 1918 and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne. Stylistically Medgyes work is associated with the School of Paris. Besides painting, the artist was involved in scenic design for opera and theatre productions across France. He eventually founded the Lazlo Medgyes School of Stagecraft in Paris and influenced many young artists including surrealist Lee Miller.

Medgyes exhibited in Paris at Galerie Povolozkyban, Galerie Vogel, the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon des Independants. In the mid-1920’s, Medgyes exhibited in New York at the New Gallery and later taught at Yale University. His works are represented in the National Gallery in Budapest.
