Born Berko Mesherowsky in Elisabethgrad, Russia in 1876, landscape painter and portraitist Boris B. Major studied art in Russia and at the Academy of Art in Munich, Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1906. Major established a studio in New Rochelle, New York and exhibited at the Monclair Museum in New Jersey. From 1910-1959 Major's works were featured and distributed nationwide by Edward Gross & Company, a New York publishing house. A world traveler and prolific painter, Major produced numerous plein air paintings from his travels to North Africa, South America and throughout Europe.
